Gloucestershire Local Produce
Gloucestershire Local Produce is being championed by two pioneering local food initiatives who formed an organisation that promotes the delicious produce of Gloucestershire, which is home to a huge range of fabulous food – food that wins prizes. For two years now two local food initiatives have been working together as Gloucestershire Food Links (GFL).
The groups behind GFL are Made In Stroud (info@MadeInStroud.org), launched in 1999 and the Forest Food Directory. Their aim is to bring the county's food producers and consumers together for the benefit of all. Their credo is all about involvement in the processes surrounding food and they actively encourage members of the community to join in and help.
The Made In Stroud Farmers' Market was launched in 1999 and runs on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month from 9am-2pm at the Cornhill Market in Stroud. The farmers' market idea originated in the USA and was developed to enable local producers to sell their goods directly to consumers. It is where the public can expect to find quality produce that is fresh and wholesome and sold at a fair price.
Almost all the produce comes from within a 17 mile radius. You will probably find meat from the countys' own breed of pig 'The Gloucester Old Spot' and Cotswold Sheep plus 'Double Gloucester', our local cheese. The market has not only been a success in itself but has had a positive impact on the town as a whole. Gloucestershire Local Produce can also be found at Farmer's Markets held all over the county from Tewkesbury to Tetbury and Coleford to Stow.
